Merkury Innovations - Brand Identity & Packaging Design

Merkury Innovations is a manufacturer of affordable consumer electronic accessories and tech products, with tasteful quality and design. Their wireless sound systems, E-sports gear, and LED home décor help to personalize consumers' atmosphere while their advancements in Smart Home production help make the upgrade to smart living accessible.

The Mission

Merkury Innovations requested a cohesive product line that can be adapted to various lighting products, targeting the teen market within a brand extension category. They told me to think BIG for this project.

The Solution

First I researched the target audience which is tweens and teens (from 8 to 19), and also studied neutral colors both boys and girls like and dislike to determine the brand colors. The choice of font, Avenir Next, plus using lower case in the logo was to represent the youth being modern and young. I brainstormed different synonyms of light and chose, "Gleam" as the brand extension of the parent brand, Brightside, which means shine brightly, especially with reflected light that reflects the current youth of tweens and teens. On the brand extension, "Gleam" logo, the "e" was edited to be an emoji smiling in glee, and the "a" has a sparkle, where the smiling "e" is depicted to be the consumer interacting with the light product. To have a cohesive product line, I designed a new brand identity for the new category name, “Gleam” by Brightside. This would allow me to follow a specific design style when it comes to logo treatment, brand colors, visuals, materials, brand tone, packaging, brand activation, and collateral. Then I used the brand identity to design the two pieces of packaging, which follows the same style through each side of the package. After the design test was submitted, I created one brand activation design of an advertisement, showcasing the two products.
